Seattle High Schools – Presidential Cup Tournament

Skyline High School and Eastlake High School in Seattle continue their Gaelic football excellence. Their inter-school challenge tournament, known as the Presidential Cup after the trophy presented to the schools by Irish President Michael D. Higgins in 2015, is now being played twice a year.
This spring the Presidential Cup tournament was held on June 1st, 2018. Four teams from Skyline HS competed; Eastlake fielded three teams.
Eastlake won the tournament 7 matches to 4, with one tie. Eastlake retains the Cup.
Brendan Hyland and Patrick Parnell, the teacher-coaches of Skyline and Eastlake were both well pleased with the high caliber of play and the solid interest from students at both schools. Terence Lynch, of Cascade Youth Gaelic Games, which supports Gaelic football programs in seven Seattle area high schools, said “Today’s action on the field just highlights the tremendous advantages that GAA in the United States is enjoying by getting Gaelic Games into school PE programs.”
